Building a local food community
Foodlink Waterloo Region is a non-profit organization that promotes local food, supports and connects farms and food businesses, provides local food education and outreach in our community, and engages decision makers in putting local food policy on the community's agenda.
Our board of directors reflects the diversity of the food system including farms, food processors, food retail, food distributors, restaurants and the hospitality industry, the non-profit sector, community food education, food media and, of course, food consumers.
While not officially a membership-based organization, more than 10% of Waterloo Region's 1,440 farms have participated in our Buy Local! Buy Fresh! program. We also work closely with a strong network of Farmers' Markets across the region, CSA programs, the Elmira Produce Auction Cooperative and a growing roster of retail outlets that carry the Buy Local! Buy Fresh! brand. More than 30 local restaurants have participated in our annual "Taste Local! Taste Fresh! culinary showcase.
We envision a healthy local food system that sustains both food producers and consumers in our community.
Foodlink is a grassroots promoter of healthy local food systems.
1. Promote healthy local food.
2. Add value to local agricultural production.
3. Improve consumer access to local food.
