History

Established in 1994.

Taste the Kettle bread and you know the recipe for the nine-grain, homemade loaf was not developed overnight. Relying on recipes handed down through generations, and brave enough to invent a few of their own, Michel and Helen Labonté built the Lazy Loaf and Kettle to the thriving business it is today.
Adding a natural air for hospitality to an old-fashioned work ethic, the Labontés began their baking venture as a home based business in 1989. By 1994, they were serving a regular, devoted customer base from their location on Parkdale Crescent.
The success of the Lazy Loaf proves the Labontés had the right combination by starting with and sticking to home-grown ingredients. The old fashioned cinnamon buns; homemade soups and sandwiches; and baked goods from Grandma’s recipe box have meant loyal customers and committed staff.
With so much goodness behind every cup of locally roasted coffee and fresh sandwiches served, it’s easy to e why the Loaf is one of Calgarians’ favourite eating spots

this place is so cute! i ordered the shepherd’s pie and got the taco salad on the side. the serving size was huge !! the shepherd’s pie was a little bland but I loved the salad. i took home a brownie as well just because they looked so good (and they were !!) the prices are a bit high but honestly this is definitely a treat-yourself place

A cozy restaurant with lots of breakfast, sandwich, and caffeine options to choose from! We came here for a late breakfast on a Sunday and were delighted by the brunch options that are served longer on the weekends. The portions were large and hit the spot in terms of breakfast food. The highlight was the homemade bread that came with the meals – fresh and delicious! There is lots of seating inside as well as outside for a comfortable experience. Although we didn’t try the desserts, they looked delicious! We stopped by a couple of days later and the staff were helpful in suggesting beverages. We went with sweetened iced green peach tea, which was perfect. Would recommend stopping by for a coffee, brunch, or light lunch.

A great little neighbourhood breakfast and causal dining spot.

A great little neighbourhood breakfast and causal dining spot. It offers an extensive menu, baked goods and barista bar. I had a monstrous chocolate scone and an excellent americano. The bakery offers some great looking breads and pastries for taking home and they offer paper bags if you can’t get through your own pastry (guilty). The breads are a nice touch for the made to order sandwiches, which I’m told are excellent. It’s suffering a bit from its own success, very busy, line ups, a slightly impatient cashier and cruel waits for meals as you watch other orders pass your table. This is something they’ll to solve but maybe it’s not so bad at slower times. I’ll definitely return, this time for a full breakfast.

This little neighbourhood gem serves up delicious hot and cold beverages and homemade cooking that’s as close to comfort as you can get! Although the lines are long, It goes quickly as the service is quick and efficient with two tills. We tried the Ruben sandwiches with soup and salads on our first visit and will be back next week again for dessert and coffees. We loved the cozy busyness with messy art vibrancy on the walls.
