We booked Hono partially as we’re always curious about “new” Japanese places (2years of Covid don’t count) and Monday’s are tricky in QCity – and Monday by 7:00 this place was packed with a Sat night buzz almost.

We booked Hono partially as we’re always curious about “new” Japanese places (2years of Covid don’t count) and Monday’s are tricky in QCity – and Monday by 7:00 this place was packed with a Sat night buzz almost. Super friendly staff – served by one…of the owners who was very friendly and steered us right. Things are not easy – sake’s in short supply (I knew) but a nice glass still to be had. Shiitake tempura is infused with yuzu and wholly original appetizer. Karaage fried chicken w wasabi mayo and caviar. Mondays I’m loathe to try sashimi so cannot comment – but it did look good. Tsukune was the best of the yakitori/ skewers. We were told the standard pork belly they use for butabara was not available. What struck me in all the dishes was a playfulness – and though we yearn for the classic Japanese way – I think if I’d been to an izakaya recently this would be a super break from the standards. Let’s call it a new take on old standards. They’re working on a ramen shop next door opening in a month or so – Kurisumasu Miso?More

We visited this very tasty Japanese tavern.

We visited this very tasty Japanese tavern. It was recommended in Canada’s top 100 cocktail bars in 2020. Indeed the cocktails were delicious however they could have been more creative. All the food we had was also tasty and well cooked. They did appear quite…busy and had another seating after us so we felt a bit rushed. I recommend booking ahead of time as it was packed when we ate there. I do recommend this place next time you visit Quebec City!More
