What could be more "Commercial Drive" than a pizza outlet? No surprise there--there are lots of them in Vancouver's legendary Italian-influenced East End. Frankly, most of these buy-by-the-slice places are pretty good, and reasonably priced. They generally offer no surprises, and so long as your...expectations aren't too high, you'll walk away satisfied. However, La Pache has raised the bar--a lot. This is pizza much more like authentic pizza you'll find in Italy. As far as I know, this is the only small casual place that offers pizza of this quality--easily equal to the much higher priced dine-in restaurants along "the Drive." What you won't find iis a pizza with a bloated, doughy crust, loaded with greasy cheese of questionable type and origin. Nope. La Pache does it right. An actual hearth stone fire baked pizza, exactly as they advertise. The ingredients are realistic as well. You'll taste fresh ingredients, carefully prepared, with the mozzarella and tomato sauce under the fresh ingredients. The menu has a wide variety. Vegetarians will find more than half a dozen choices (I tried three), and if you need gluten free or vegan options, La Pache can do that too. Whether you're looking for a light snack or a full meal, this 'new kid on the block' is well worth checking out. Higher quality than most, and the price won't kill you either.
