Visited for the first time on an anniversary date. Expectations were high but nonspecific, especially considering the pandemic. We shared two different steamed buns, shiitake and pork, both quite good (although mushroom was better, very nice subtle cream sauce and greens inside, where the pork...was a touch dry). Next was pork and vegetable dumplings, very flavourful and beautifully presented. After that, chicken katsu, simple but really impressive: moist chicken, crispy with a touch of BBQ sauce heavy on warm spices, cinnamon and clove, and mild but well paired pickles. Finally we tried the mushroom / truffle egg noodles, a surprisingly generous dish with perfectly cooked noodles and a gorgeous blend of truffle and subtle herb flavours - one of the best dishes I've enjoyed in any restaurant. We also had some wine, from a great wine list - fairly short but very good options, and conveniently offered in 3 sizes of pours. Maque is a Winnipeg gem - great food, in a surprisingly laid-back atmosphere, at a pretty reasonable price for the excellent quality.
