Hillcrest is a terrific neighbourhood community with lots of food options but we found many of them closed for Sunday lunch/brunch. Fortunately for us we did get a table on the small street "patio" at DAVE'S. Polite and efficient server greeted us and quickly cleaned...off the table and libations were ordered from a massive number of beers and ciders (at reasonable prices) and quickly served.Sadly for us the kitchen was much slower on the food prep and noticeable by our party. The pub was not crowded and people who had arrived after us were served first. I would hope this was a small glitch and would not happen often. Fortunately, the food was worth the wait. The food on the table beside us looked delicious. The MAC & CHEESE ($15) looked excellent and smelled delicious but FRENCH TOAST ($11) was ordered and turned out to be a gorgeous and properly presented plate of five flavourful pieces. I might suggest that an additional little cup of maple syrup might be suggested/offered to supplement the little pouring given. DAVE'S BURGER ($16) was a large and delicious patty served with crispy onions and a variety of mayos on the menu if you choose. The huge serving of french fries were the best crispy type I have ever tasted and done without me asking for a double fry. The only downside to the burger was the bun. It was a bit over-sized and more stale than crispy so I would suggest a thinner and fresher type so as not to overshadow the meat. Daily specials, good food and nightly activities make this small pub with no frills an obvious neighbourhood favourite and understandably so !More
