They say there is always a first time, & this first time came fairly late in for me. While I have ordered from Darby’s Liquor Store when my son & his family were coming off Island to visit, or for one of my son’s birthday...parties he was coming in to share with me, I have never even contemplated ordering in wine & beer for myself alone. In fact, in all my years on the planet, I have never had a drink on my own in my home. I have always had a drink with my family, or with friends who came by to visit or for a meal. Yes, when I travelled alone as a journalist or an academic ,I have made my way to the hotel bar for a drink on my own but once there there were other people to make conversation with, so it was never drinking on my own. Now with the Coronovirus restrictions one is not able to go to an eatery for something to eat or drink & so I thought well there is always a first time. I called Darby’s & got the helpful & friendly service I am used to when I have called in for larger orders for my son & his family’s visits. I tentatively asked what the minimum I had to order to get its delivery service & was told 25$ which seemed a small enough amount to spend. In the end I ordered far more than that, including popcorn $ chip with a nice bottle of red wine & some nice four- packs of hoppy beer. Cole was very helpful with my order, as was Richard when I called back moments later to check on an aspect of the red wine I had ordered. My order took around an hour to be delivered, even though I was told it may be longer as there were many orders ahead of me & it was a busy Friday evening. I live fairly close to Darby’s so I guess it may have been easy to slip in en route with another order. Darby has a very snazzy black vehicle heralding the arrival of one’s order, something I am sure many are happy to see pull up, especially after a long day at work. With many staying home Darby’s has extended it delivery hours from 10 a.m, to 11 p,m. every day: Dennis, a driver who had delivered. to my home before, was as friendly as his colleagues, arriving this time in a mask, telling me the machine had been sanitized. I tipped 10$, & was most happy to be able sip a beer while I munched on good popcorn. Posted by S FullerMore
