Isabella's Boutique Restaurant? Never heard of it but a friend of mine suggested we go there. It's a cute little place in the Beach neighbourhood, with several picnic tables located in a fenced-in area on the street. It's actually quite charming They have a simple...but small menu, based on Japanese influences. We ordered the Chicken Karaage Sandwich, Japanese Cheesesteak Sandwich, Japanese Curry Poutine, and a six-pack of their Mochi Donuts. The sandwiches, accompanied by a small salad, came two per order, made with what looked like large dinner rolls (only in appearance). The chicken, battered and fried, was tender, moist, and delicious. The tender beef was also very tender and moist. The melted cheese kept it from falling apart. As good as those sandwiches were, the star of the evening for me was the Japanese Curry Poutine. I've had poutine before, including some really good ones, but there was something about this one that I really liked. Maybe it was the curry? Whatever it was, I really enjoyed it! My party of three actually enjoyed the food so much, we ordered four more sandwiches (two of each)! That was overkill. We ended up taking home two. As good as the food was, Isabella's is famous for their Mochi Donuts. They claim to be Canada's original and leading mochi donuts, made preservative free. We took a box of six to go - not home but for a walk on the beach. We were full and needed to walk off some of the food before digging into the donuts. They were delicious! They had a nice flavour and texture, not too sweet. It was actually my first time having a mochi donut but not my last! I'm curious to see how Isabella's handles their customers over the winter. I don't imagine the picnic tables in the street will work, especially with snow. Although I didn't go inside, it doesn't look big enough to accommodate a lot of people. Maybe I'll just have to come back to see for myself.
