We had a belated Valentine’s Day dinner at the Don Mills location, and having been there a couple of times before for mid afternoon lunch, looked forward to it. However, we were greeted by being told “we will need your table at 7:30.” It was...5:45. Why would you tell the customer, essentially, “eat fast because we’ll kick you out soon for someone else”? Extremely rude. Especially as we were a couple the least likely to party until the dawn. Next, the music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other. We loved their music selections before, right up our alley, but not blasting like a club. We spoke to the manager and he said the owners preset the volume to go up at a certain time to “create a lively vibe”...ie, if you are of a certain age, don’t bother to dine with us. As someone who has always been volume sensitive, but “lively”, it was another insult on top of the rude greeting at the door. Eventually, the ceiling seemed to have so much reverberation with the excessively loud music that someone else must have complained and staff or the manager figured out a way to turn down the music. It was then muffled - not clear - so a better sound system is in order so as to enjoy the excellent tunes. When you blast the music over time it’s rather hard on the sound system. There were couples, families of all ages, and friends enjoying each other’s company. So not a club crowd. The food was great, the drinks superlative. But I doubt we will come back. I see others on the Open Table website also complained recently about the music volume. Another complained about the environment for her (I assume) older parents who will never be back. Keep in mind who has the most disposable income to go to restaurants. Not teenagers, or underemployed young adults. Middle aged people who are far from the nursing home, “lively”, and ready for a good time. Don’t go to this restaurant if you’d like to be welcomed and be able to hear your dinner partners.
