After almost forty years of making burgers in and around Vancouver, Vera's is definitely a local burger institution. Burger Biters decided to rate the all natural Classic with bacon to see how it stacked up. The hand-made natural beef patty was delicious - moist, perfectly...seasoned without overpowering the beefiness of the grass fed beef, all with nice dark caramelization lines for that extra flavour and crunch (4.5/5). The bun was fresh and flavourful, and was a perfect size for the patty, holding everything nicely together from start to finish (4.25/5). The toppings (the freshness of the leaf lettuce was most appreciated) and bacon all complemented the burger nicely - no over-the-top flavours to distract from the beef (4/5). Too bad the burgers were missing the requisite dill... The optional double-fried fries were fine, hot and nicely seasoned, but nothing special (2.75/5). Overall, the burgers came to $12 with the added bacon, and the fries were an extra $3, pretty standard, and the presentation on a metal platter with paper is definitely utilitarian functional (3.5/5). Daily specials, however, offer great value! Our delicious burgers averaged out to 3.8/5, highly recommended without any reservations! Keeping things simple for a burger works wonders when done right, and Vera's does it right! Decent lunchtime service, a full bar, and the usual suspects for beer (unfortunately, Granville Island is pretty much it apart from the big boys) - nothing that would make a craft beer lover weak in the knees. That said, beer specials are usually offered for around $5, washing down your burger nicely. Vera's burgers are mighty good!More
