Flower and Horse in Spring specializes in "Crossing the Bridge Rice Noodles", a Yunnan specialty. It is similar to a hotpot. The broth is boiling hot. It is a light broth, almost a neutral palette for the accompanying dishes. It is more subtle than the...ubiquitous ramen you'll find nearby. You order your protein - generally a bit of beef or seafood. It comes along with a dozen smaller accompaniments - vegetables, tofu and a quail's egg. Everything gets stirred in to cook. The restaurant also has a small selection of the Yunnan specialties and appetizer size sides. Service is excellent. For novices like us they were happy to spend time explaining the meal and coaching us on how to prepare it. The decor has been updated from the former incarnation as a Japanese noodle house. The walls are mustard yellow and there are Yunnanese crafts displayed along the walls. Definitely worth a try. Nice to have more variety to choose from in the neighbourhood.
