Kibune Sushi celebrated its 38th birthday July 1 by doing what it usually does, working mindfully & diligently to produce good Japanese food for its appreciative customers, as it has been doing daily— except for Mondays — for the past some 12,000 days it has...been open at its prime location at the corner of Yew & Cornwall in Kitsilano. That is some record of resilience; its record for serving top quality sushi & sashimi matches it. Kibune has remained cautious even in phases 3,& has not yet reopened for indining but it is doing a brisk business producing takeaways from 1 to 7p.m. daily, but for Monday, especially so in the late afternoon into the evening. It reduced its current menu prices a touch some months ago when it went to takeaway & it is also offering beer & wine to go. It also offers some specials, which can be viewed on its website, as can its menu. My favorite it the real crab California roll at 8:25, something I often stop in for. It is assessing things on a day-to-day basis, happy that it is being supported by its regulars on the takeout front. I dined at Kibune on March 18, just two days before the edict came down that all B.C. eateries has to close for indining. Then Kibune was one of the few places in the neighborhood still open, with very careful safety procedures well in place. I had gone in part as a response to the restaurant association putting out a call to people to support local businesses & on the basis of knowing I would be in owner/chef Enid’s safe hands. I always enjoy its food & look forward to dining in in the near future & raising a glass to Endo & his elegant & refined team in recognition of its 38 wonderful years, Posted by S FullerMore
