I attended Coast Restaurant – of Glowbal Group fame – as part of a large group for a business meeting and dinner. Having previously dined at restaurants in the Glowbal Group, I was expecting a superb meal complete with excellent service. Our group certainly got...the latter, but I’m not sure about the “superb meal?” I mean, I don’t want to imply that it was bad per se, but it certainly didn’t wow me. My Caesar Salad was fine; the Spring Salmon w/ herbed mashed potatoes and veggies was decent; and, the Dark Chocolate Bar was fun but, again, I wasn’t blown away . . . it was fine. But, in a city with so many excellent seafood restaurants, being “fine” isn’t exactly a high endorsement. I guess in an upscale environment like Coast Restaurant, I was just expecting more. Well, at least we had one funny moment during dinner: Some at our table were talking about the hardships faced by others; specifically, housing challenges, job losses and those struggling with substance abuse issues. As this conversation was unfolding, the servers started presenting us with our Dark Chocolate Bars which, by the way, were covered in gold flakes. I couldn’t help but poke fun at the irony: “Speaking of hardships, let’s eat our chocolate and gold flakes!” The whole thing struck me as a wonderful Marie Antoinette moment! FOOD: 3/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 3/5 RECOMMENDATION: Well, Coast Restaurant was no Glowbal (the flagship restaurant). The quality of service received was very good, but the food didn’t quite live up to standards. It was, to be blunt, boring. I recommend attending Glowbal or Black + Blue instead.
