We were a table of four out for an open air dinner. Once seated it seemed like it took forever to get served, and even after that, it was done in tranches. "I'll be back shortly to take your drink order, I tell you about...our menu in a minute." On top of that we were told that the food was "excellent, and that people really raved about it." Talk about building expectations. Well, the two apps we ordered were not bad, and the mains were certainly tasty, but nothing off the clock. We collectively felt the duck pasta was excellent, but the Veg Harvest salad was just a salad. The burger suffered from too many savoury sauces masking the real burger taste, and the potatoes accompanying the trout could have used a big pinch of seasoning. The most off-putting thing, though, was the server's mask not staying in place (one would think that 18 months of pandemic training would have led to better results). Fortunately, the wine was great, the classic cocktails that we selected from a fulsome list were delicious, the setting nice, and the company excellent. The Farmhouse, though, needs to learn a bit about under promising and over delivering. The reverse equation is not as successful.
