Certainly wanted this one to be special, as it was a while since I'd had poke. A local's recommendation led me to Pokerrito on Dunsmuir. 1st impression was of a dingy not too clean place, needed a good wipe down, floors grubby, condiment bottles requiring...a scrub. Nowhere to wash hands. I inquired. Got quizzical looks from staff. Eventually, I got my bottle of water from my backpack, went outside and rinsed my hands on the street ! Staff a tad standoffish, maybe a language barrier? (I don't know a word of theirs) but read the menu looked at the ordering instructions on the wall, and decided on a build yer own large bowl, with 3 scoops of protein. Surprised by the high price once the 'extra' bits and 'premium' stuff was tallied up, nearly 20 bucks in total ! Should be extraordinarily good and fresh at that price point....... However: 'Premium' proteins: ahi and salmon were anything but....extra 3 bucks!.... 3rd protein was a marinated tuna with chili. All VERY ordinary ... small scoops of 'nothing special'. REALLY huge 'topping' servings especially the ginger pickle. Dwarfed the bowl. Tobiko was poor. extra charge for wasabi? wassup with that? size does matter - but doesn't equate to value when quality is sub par. Brown rice was ok, ditto green bits and sprouts. Overall, an uninspiring poke bowl at that price level. Service underwhelming. Venue needs a good cleaning imho. Dining in at a high bench facing the street non too comfortable, a tad cramped. Rating: It's not 'poor' or two circles. edible. ok. nothing to write home about, all true, but not 'poor' not 'very good' or 4 circles either...when u charge those prices, a slightly higher standard comes into play imho. which leaves a low 3 circles or (a c - minus in auld money) not rushing back. still looking for the great Vancouver poke bowl. anybody out there KNOW WHERE? please... before I travel to Hawaii in 4 weeks s v p.
