I had lunch with my wife. It was a very cold day and we could get to the Duke without going outside. The food was adequate but not outstanding. Same with the service - adequate, but not outstanding. The area we were seated in was...by the bar and was small and crowded. My wife had the fish and chips and said it was fine. I had the Posh Clubhouse, and it was OK. Just. The filling was in the centre of the sandwich and not evenly spread, so there were areas of bread around the edge with no filling. The sandwich was supposed to have Stilton, and the first half didn't seem to have any. The second half did, but just in one small spot. The french fries were no better than warm when the food arrived. That's likely because as the food is prepared it's placed on a table by the kitchen and is then picked up and carried upstairs to where we sat. Between the delay for a waiter to get it and the walk...well, nothing would be hot on arrival. Still, I have eaten at many worse places.
