My wife and I popped into the Kasbah Village on Laurier Avenue West for supper on a Friday evening before a concert. We each ordered a Tagine with a plate of cous-cous on the side. Each was served steaming hot in a covered clay pot....I had selected the Zayanne, made with lamb, prunes and almonds. The lamb was so tender it literally disintegrated at the touch of my fork. The prunes gave the dish an over-all rather sweet taste with the crunchy nuts providing a very interesting contrast. My wife selected the Tangerois, made with chicken, lemon rinds and olives. That gave a wonderful overall savoury effect. Both main courses were quite excellent. Afterwards, we enjoyed the Moroccan baklava, one of the house specialities. These were hand-made on the premises from whole almonds, soaked and cooked, sweetened with honey and wrapped in a delightful, delicate, flaky pastry. (The Spanish coffee we had on the side was a very pleasant compliment.) The Kasbah Village remains one of my favourite restaurants in the downtown core and I highly recommend it.
