As far as fast-food chain restaurants go, I think A&W remains at the top of the ladder. In my experience, and with very rare exception, they’ve been consistent in both food and service regardless of location. For that reason, whenever I’m in need of a...quick bite, I’ll typically patronize an A&W if it happens to be within the vicinity. That’s exactly how my partner and I wound up at the unit found within City Square. Following a successful shopping excursion at Dollarama, we both felt a bit peckish and decided to go for an A&W snack treat. My partner got a Teen Burger while I got the Habanero Chicken Burger. Without getting too wordy, I’ll just say my Habanero Chicken Burger was exactly of the quality I’ve come to expect of an A&W: The chicken was nicely seasoned with just enough habanero spice; it had a nice, crispy outer layer, yet remained juicy and flavourful on the inside; the lettuce was crisp; and the tomato . . . well, I can’t really say anything about it because I always toss them aside (haha). In short, the chicken burger was satisfying and hit all the right notes. Finally, what would a visit to A&W be without a classic root beer? While it’s not as exciting sans the frosted mug, beggars can’t be choosers in a food court. A&W root beer in a paper cup beats no root beer at all. It remained smooth and rich, which is exactly what one wants. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 5/5 RECOMMENDATION: While the City Square food court contains a lot of unique options – with an emphasis on Asian flavours – sometimes all you want is predictability and familiarity. In that respect, A&W ticks all the right boxes. The food is consistent, service is good, and the price is right (great value for money). Allen & Wright would be proud!
