We went to the Dominion to attend a party hosted by a friend to celebrate his birthday. I say that the birthday boy hosted because quite a bit of the evening featured him and his band playing a couple of pub sets to entertain the...guests and since one of the Dominion's rooms is set up with a stage and live sound gear, the space could not have been better suited to the occasion. As a heritage building, the Dominion's interior design takes advantage of plenty of the original structure but it's laid out as a modern-looking open-kitchen pub and restaurant. The room with the stage is set towards the back of the building with no hard separation from the main room but still well "out of the way". There's also a smaller, completely closed private function room at the front of the building. Even while dealing with a party group of some 50 guests and all sorts of separate tabs, the two servers seemed to easily keep pace with drink and food orders. The featured cocktails were a real treat. For dinner, we shared a two-piece made-to-order serving of the haddock and chips, recommended by our server, and the fish had probably some of the best batter I've ever tasted; definitely not your run-of-the-mill greasy and heavy pub fish. All of the party food that my friend and his partner ordered (chicken, beef, and falafel sliders, dips, pita, etc.) was also excellent.
