Brown’s Social House is centrally located on Kitsilano’s 4th Ave and thus a good place to nip into to take shelter from the rain, or to take respite on a sunny day on its outside patio. It was a rainy January shopping day, and, as...it was also towards the end of the eatery’s daily happy hour, from 3 to 6 pm, this provided an additional reason to pop by. The service is generally good, as it was when I came in to take shelter from the rain. The host was welcoming, as was the server, Kassandra, who was attentive, steering me to a good dish when I asked for help with dishes which were not as deep fried, as is the more usual fare at this eatery. I had a small Cowboy salad with a side of chicken, which had many components to it and came to around 20$ with the chicken.’ I added a cup of Thai chicken soup which at around $5, is often a nice quick addition. I added its happy hour priced sleeves, at around 5$, to my food and beverage mix. I find the service and the location draw me in rather than the food, and wish the menu was more adventurous with more dishes like the Cowboy salad, an icon, which evokes just such adventure.
