So we were in the mood for a burger so we planned on going to Cannibal Cafe just down the road. They weren’t open for about half an hour so we remembered this place which always had a huge lineup (pre-Covid times). I actually forgot...what type of food they served and thought it was going to be comfort food. We made our way here and they had great Covid protocols in place and there was one person in front of us. Things were looking good and already smelling delicious inside. We were quickly seated and got a table right at the bar. About to order and surprised with a full Vietnamese food menu. So don’t be deceived by the name like I was! Lol. We ordered their crispy pork spring rolls to start. It was exactly what you’d expect from a spring roll but it was slightly different. It was pretty dense and the skin was very tightly wrapped. They wrapped the inside with a different wrapper and the outside was a more conventional spring roll so it’d be crispy for texture. (Did I just bore you with that?... moving on...) So the grilled chicken & rice was fantastic! The chicken was grilled to perfection so think succulent and juicy! Perfectly caramelized and topped with what I’ll call “Hainanese chicken green onion oil”. So either you know that flavour or just trust that it goes very well with the dish. Loved the fried egg on top of the rice and the pickled veggies. I’ll be coming to see you again Lunch Lady!More
