I think I came down a little hard on Megabite Pizza in my previous review. Writing a few years ago, I stated: “it [the pizza] just tasted (and looked) like cheap food court pizza” and “The pizza was cheap, but so too was the overall...quality.” I’m convinced, now, that I probably caught Megabite on an off-night because every subsequent order – and there’s been at least 5 of them – has been exceptional . . . a return to form. In short, I’ve been reminded why this local chain became a pizza “go to” starting in 2009: A good variety of pizza options, decent quality and excellent value for money. But it’s about more than just good, cheap pizza. Megabite has become a traditional “must have” for sentimental reasons: With the closure of Fortune House in 2018, Megabite became my partner and I’s default “first date” (or should I say “second date?”) eatery. Granted, we typically order Megabite when in Vancouver, but it’s a “must” in November. See! Sentimental, but I love it. And I’m glad Megabite has been consistent in quality over the last few years. I wanted to share my recent positive experiences exactly because the one I talked about earlier was clearly a one-off. However, because of my aversion to writing more than a single review for any one restaurant (especially a chain, no matter how small), I decided to order from Megabite’s Davie Street location (all previous orders up to this point were from their Granville unit). Because Megabite is a small BC-based chain, I wasn’t worried about a change in quality; after all, chain restaurants – if they’re any good – should taste exactly the same regardless of location. Thankfully, that was the case here: The pizza mirrored previous experiences had at Granville. When it came to food, we ordered a Large “Half and Half” pizza + 8 Boneless Chicken bites. The Half and Half, which featured half Hot & Sweet and half Bacon Mushroom, was excellent. The pizza had a good ratio of toppings to base; the crust had a light crispness to it; and, best of all, Megabite’s signature sesame seeds were back (and they have been, in every order, since 2019). The boneless chicken bites, with their crunchy exterior and juicy inside, complemented the pizza quite well. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 5/5 VALUE: 4/5 RECOMMENDATION: I’ve since learned that Megabite is the “sister restaurant” of another favouite, Pizza Garden. How cool is that? Though Megabite is clearly the more budget-friendly of the two. Anyway, I’m glad Megabite has returned to form since my last comment. Hopefully they’ll remain a “go to” for many more years to come.
