We visited here for one of my son's birthdays - he chose the restaurant based on the menu. We were greeted very nicely and seated immediately. Overall, the staff were pleasant, but the service a bit slower than desired. For appetizers, we ordered the warm...goat cheese salad (very good), tiger shrimp (great flavour, but defintely not tiger shrimp as they were about 1 to 1 1/2" in length), and PEI mussels (excellent). I noticed on the menu that parties of 6 were charged an 18% gratuity (more on that later). For mains, the salmon ordered by one was very good, and the chicken breast was very tasty (a bit of a small serving). I chose the beef short rib ravioli, which arrived in a type of broth - not what I expected, but was tasty - unfortunately, with only 5 ravioli, it wasn't enough. Two of my kids ordered the risotto, which arrived undercooked - to his credit, the server quickly had the kitchen remake them, but even still, it lacked seasoning and good flavour profile - fairly monotone. One of my sons ordered the linguine with tiger shrimp, and said it was tasty, but not a big enough serving. For dessert, they brought my birthday son a tasty sorbet with a candle. My daughter and I shared the creme brulee, which was very good. Overall, the food was decent and service decent, but to be honest, I expected more based on previous reviews and the size of the bill. And, this brings me to my pet peeve - whilst I grudgingly understand the purpse of a minimum gratuity for larger parties, I believe a tip is earned and not automatic. And, the biggest issue I have is that the 18% was charged on top of the 13% HST, which basically meant the tip equated to 20% (rounding down), which is not what I would have tipped for the service received.
