We are rating this restaurant 1 star. We have tried hundreds of restaurants all over Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and Canadian & international cities and have never been as disappointed as we were this night, truly. We drove 3 hours specifically for this restaurant and were...absolutely rooting for them. The emphasis of this review is more on customer service (specific staff) and this took place on July 15, 2021. 1) We ordered the bhel puri as a appetizer. My friend thought she ordered the pani puri so she was surprised when it arrived. We asked the waiter (male) if they had pani puri and he very passive aggressively asked if we wanted him to make the bhel puri into a different shape and re-serve it. Obviously this would make zero difference. Although minor, this was a very obvious insult. They ran out of pani puri so we didn't end up ordering it. The bhel puri was good and we were satisfied with the taste. 2) Please see attached the tandoori chicken hariyali that was served to us. The chicken in appearance was wet/red/pink/slimy. In all my experience of dining, specifically dining at Indian restaurants - I have never ever eaten chicken that is even the slightest shade of pink. We are Indian and Bengali and have been eating indian food/chicken tandoori our entire lives. The waitress insisted this is how they serve it and that it is not raw. We did not want to risk it and when we mentioned we were not going to eat it, she immediately grabbed the plate and stormed off with all our cutlery. It was sudden and abrupt and made us feel uncomfortable. They put this on our bill which I'll explain below. 3) We didn't have cutlery for 25+ minutes so we sat there with our other appetizers, hoping she would bring us some. My friend tried to wave down the waitress 3x and she always turned in the opposite direction somehow. We were too hungry and grabbed the cutlery from the empty table beside us since the tables were at arm's length from each other. At this point, the waitress saw this and still didn't come over to our table to see if we needed anything. 4) For our main dishes, the vindaloo was very bland unfortunately. There was no taste, spice or flavour. However, the channa masala was decent and the naan was good. It didn't seem like there was much naan and so we asked the waitress how many naans we ordered and she said 2 but they had only served us 1 (served in 3 pieces). After this dish, my friend's stomach starting hurting badly. 5) When the bill arrived, they charged us for the tandoori chicken hariyali after the waitress had taken it off our table. The waitress mentioned "that is how we make our food and if you don't want it then there is nothing we can do". We have never been treated like this at any restaurant. The problem was NEVER the bill - we could have easily paid. It was her defensive attitude, lack of understanding, and overall very poor customer service. Absolutely the wrong way of addressing the situation. Zero compassion for rectifying the circumstance and being courteous. We mentioned everything from above and she had a excuse for everything. She mentioned she didn't bring us new cutlery because "she is not use to bringing cutlery back mid dinner" and when I mentioned the naan, she said "we did bring it to you" (this was only after we told them we had 1 naan served to us). We did not want to pay for the chicken but I did tell her we will pay for it if we have to but thankfully after all this, they took it off our bill. Also, she mentioned a lot of customers have had the same issue with the chicken. 6) Bottom line is we would have never written a bad review if it was the chicken alone. The review was written because of very poor service. There is a certain level of attentiveness and consideration needed in these types of circumstances. The way the waitress handled the situation was completely unprofessional. We understand it can be busy, and mistakes can happen but there was no apologies and excuses for everything. Responses by staff and management should be handled with care.
