I stopped at this location for breakfast yesterday. They did have a contact tracing sign-in sheet at the entrance but no other evidence the owner is aware we are in the middle of a pandemic other than the masked waiter. There was no hand sanitizer...on that table to use after touching the shared pen and no sign of sanitizer anywhere in view. I should have left then but as I knew I had hand sanitizer in my purse I proceeded to a table. I immediately noticed the table was equipped with multiple high touch items such as salt and pepper shakers, a sugar dispenser, a wire tray of jams etc. and a bottle of HP sauce (see attached photo). The outside of the HP bottle was covered in sauce and the sugar dispenser looked dirty and sticky. The waiter came and placed the single use menu which doubles as a placemat in front of me but then set a napkin wrapped knife and fork directly on the table with the ‘business’ end of both exposed and touching the table. Why he didn’t place thus on the placemat is a mystery. I knew I wasn’t going to be touching that cutlery so I just ordered a BLT and a cup of coffee. The coffee was accompanied by a big bowl of individual creamers and milks that obviously gets shared by multiple customers. I asked for an individual sugar packet as there was no way I was touching anything on that table and was informed they don’t have those. I said “I guess I’ll have to do without” and the waiter just shrugged. The sandwich came accompanied by what looked like pretty good coleslaw but with no trusted fork available I just left that be. My waiter didn’t return for ages. I finally got my cheque which came in an American Express accepted here folder, so naturally I assumed that was an accepted form of payment. After several failed attempts with the waiter watching, he finally told me they don’t actually take AMEX! WTF! I couldn’t wait to get out of there. I do not want my review of this location to taint other Wimpy’s restaurants, particularly the one at Whites Rd. and Kingston in Pickering which is our normal location. Clearly these are under different ownership as the Pickering restaurant has employed all COVID safety protocols. Their cutlery is sealed in plastic, salt, pepper, sugar and condiments are all single use and nothing that’s been on a customer’s table gets redeployed to a different table. The staff at Pickering are also way more friendly and attentive. I only changed locations this one time due to it’s proximity to the Dollarama store I prefer. Never again!More
