My family and I have been dining at the Himalaya for nearly 40 years. I remember when it was a tiny white shop inside with a window pass-through for the food. Now it's a huge (and somewhat gaudy) place with many tables. The secret to...enjoying a meal here is to NEVER do the buffet. Order off the menu and get delicious freshly prepared dishes. Palak Paneer, Paneer Tika and Pakoras, Malai Kofta... Everything we have ever ordered has been delicious. A couple of times we made the mistake of trying the buffet. Maybe we had visitors with us who wanted the buffet, I don't know, but what I do recall is that it was always mediocre. How long have these dishes been sitting here? Who knows. And why are these buffet dishes so unappetizing and lacking in flavour? Who knows again. For a kitchen that can put out really delicious a la carte dishes to offer such a mediocre buffet, I don't get it. But I would bet that most of the people leaving poor reviews here had the buffet. And that is too bad. Because they missed out on some yummy meals. The sweets are really second to none. We had some recently and they seem to be less overpoweringly sweet than they used to be. Maybe they are putting in less sugar, which is good. They are still sweet, fresh and truly delicious. Grab a box and fill it up with all that Indian sweet goodness. Gulab jamun is my favourite, but there are many different ones on offer. You can go in and just pick up some sweets to go, if you like. Take your box of goodies to the counter to be weighed and pay for them. Then: instant Nirvana! So remember: No buffet, menu only, and takeout sweets = delicious!More
