To say this was my greatest culinary adventure would be an understatement. Where do I even begin? After entering the store, we were greeted with the stink of old, greasy oil. Given the fact that we were very hungry, we decided to look past it...and ordered some masala dosas. When we had asked for some water, it came in dirty glasses, The glasses were covered with dirt you could peel off with your nails, and other kinds of delightful spots. Once this was pointed out, the server was ever so kind to take the glasses back and this time actually clean it before serving water to us. While waiting for our food, we were entertained with sounds which I could only conclude was coming from somebody snoring on the floor, behind the bar. This continued for the duration of our stay there. When our food finally arrived, we decided to take a taste of the different small dishes that come with the dosa. The dishes were potatoes, chutney and sambar. The sambar had most definitely gone bad. When we brought this to the servers attention, he took the food back to the kitchen. Soon after, a woman came out from the back, and told us that this is how their sambar supposedly tastes, and that it was prepared fresh. After I tried to explain to her how rotten sambar tastes, and how their sambar most definitely tastes like that, she was still not having it. Seeing how confident the staff was with serving their rotten food, I decided to just pay and get out of there before they offered us some of their other awesome, yet possibly rotten, food as compensation instead of being courteous enough to admit their mistake and take care of the bill for us. However this step was also filled with amusement, as the woman had gotten the bill wrong, by forgetting the price of their own product, and overcharged me by 7$. Once I broke down the price of the items to her, she realized her error, and corrected the bill. How generous of her. Before going to this restaurant I had not realized that an experience as bad (or great?) as this was even possible in a Canadian restaurant. We were there for about 30 minutes, and the staff was amazing enough to screw up every single aspect of the restaurant experience. This restaurant is the Tommy Wiseau of the restaurant world. A truly unique experience. Did I say this was about a culinary adventure? I meant culinary misadventure.
