Went here with an out-of-town co-worker. He picked this place because he saw an instagram video of the brisket that looked promising. We arrived at around 7pm on a week night so it wasn’t busy at all. Place looks like a place straight out of...Texas, so they definitely provide the atmosphere. We both ordered the same thing - a half pound of beef brisket. For Vancouver, the BBQ beef brisket is probably as close as you can get to good Texas BBQ (although not as good as in Texas). The brisket is cut-to-order and a good amount of real wood smoke. Some cuts were perfectly tender, but some parts were dried out fast - so uneven. BBQ sauce is on the table if needed but any good BBQ won’t need a lot of it. The beans and brisket side was OK but nothing special. Service was casual and friendly, and met expectations. The only problem I encountered... I saw a mouse scurry across the floor while eating my brisket. Was it a one-off or a sign of something worse? I don’t know. When I checked the Vancouver health inspection history, they’ve never been cited, so I hope they have a good pest management program. After 6pm there is plenty of free parking right out front. As others have mentioned, there is a lot of homeless in the area, but are completely harmless. In fact, I saw four police officers come in to pick up some takeout so maybe it’s a favourite take out spot for them. Overall, good BBQ and good service at reasonable prices. Normally a 3.5 star review but averaged down because of the mouse sighting.
