I have eaten weekly at this restaurant since its inception. From every iteration of house-made gnocchi and sweetbreads ,to detailed (without pretence) wine pairing, guests who are fortunate enough to find a seat in this 'petit coin' are always leaving with dreams of future visits...to Brothers. The many Brothers service teams I have met throughout the years have always been authentic, devoted to food, passionate about wine, and sticklers for making their curated seasonal menus feel generous without feeling unctuous. I have rarely disliked a dish (one preparation of lamb two years ago). As soon as my attuned server noted the lack of complete joy on my face, my plate was whisked away, while a complimentary glass (or three) of champagne coated the the minutes before a complimentary (and delicious) protein replaced the lamb. If this isn't service par excellence, I don't know what is. Is the vibration from the subway charming in the way some spa pedicure massage chairs are purported to be? Sure. Do the cozy quarters at the bar make for sometimes-nosy neighbours into (somehow) legitimate new friends? Surprisingly, yes. Is it nearly impossible to get a reservation? Yeah. But once inside, away from the odd population of Bloor-meets-Bay Street, all senses, including that of feeling cared for, are delighted. Cheers to John and Chris, and to Julie and Dana, and to all of the brilliant folks at Brothers who make the outskirts of Yorkville seem less intolerable: your food and customer service are to be envied. Now if only they could somehow include a pedicure...
