As someone who's lived in India for a decade, as well as sample's Vancouver's Indian Fare, I was very surprised by Akbar's Own. I had just missed the lunch special so I ordered an Entree - Vegetable Jal Frazie and made it a meal. Meaning,...it came with 3 pieces of Naan, a bowl or rice and dahl. When it all arrived, it looked to be a bit too much for one person. Nonetheless, I dug in and before I knew it, I was almost done. What was really amazing was that the Naan was very light, fluffy and easy to digest. I never felt full when usually Naan stuffs me up very quickly. On top of that, though the dish was rich, it never felt heavy. It was simply flavourful, very well prepared and just so easy on the belly. I would definitely go back again. I also went after the lunch rush, it I had the whole place to myself and it was very peaceful and quiet. Also, the music was pleasant, as sometimes, Indian eateries can be overwhelming with Bollywood music and misogynistic videos. So if you enjoy amazingly authentic and fresh Indian Food, I can't say enough about Akbar's own.
