I am not normally one to complain but we had a terrible experience from this restaurant. Our favorite Chinese Restaurant Komodo Restaurant was closed as the owners had gone for holidays. We were going to order from 4 Seasons but thought we would give this...place a chance and try something new - big mistake. We should of known something was up when our order came to $90. At the other two chinese restaurants that we take-out from our bill is usually around $65. My wife even mentioned that their prices are considerably more than their competitors but we thought perhaps it could be worth it if the quality was very high. Not the case. Quick Summary: - Spring Rolls were not bad - let's say average. - Chicken and Black Bean Sauce - Very little black bean sauce and it was as runny as soup - no taste at all. - Shrimp and Vegetables - Shrimp was rubbery and the vegetables mostly consisted of celery. - BBQ Pork Fried Rice - Pork was not BBQ, only what looked like boiled sliced pork with absolutely no taste. Rice itself had a very peculiar taste and none of us enjoyed it. - 'Crispy' Ginger Beef - was definitely not 'crispy' as per their description. It was so chewy it was not even edible. It had a real nice ginger taste and had the meat been chew-able it would have been a nice dish. - No Dry Breaded Pork on the menu so we tried Dry Breaded Veal - not even edible - tasted horrible and I love veal. - Mushroom Egg Foo Yung - had barely any mushrooms or bean sprouts and minimal sauce. Basically tasted like an egg omelette. - They charge for steamed rice but my wife loves it so we ordered some - she said it was very chewy and not very good. When a family of four pays $90 for take-out Chinese we expect much better quality than this. We usually like leftovers the next day but we ended up throwing everything in the garbage. Barely edible the first day, I could only imagine how bad it would of tasted as leftovers. I should of saved my money and gone to Dim Sum the next day. Sorry to be a 'debbie downer' but absolutely no highlights to speak about. Oh, and they told us to pick-up our order in 30 minutes, my wife had to wait another 30 minutes for the order to be ready and no one was in the restaurant. Maybe having no one in the restaurant should of told us something. If you live in the Southeast side of Winnipeg stick to Komodo or 4 Seasons restaurant - quality of food is substantially better. Heck, chinese buffet quality is much better. I love supporting the local 'little guy' but in this case they either need a new cook or something has to change.
