After we sat the owner approached and told us there was no table service, only bar service due to COVID, and left. I saw a waitress serving all tables. She asked us for our order, came back with menus, then later returned to take our...order. We ordered pop. I explained we had just eaten but planned to be there all night and would order entrees and drinks later, she cheerfully said that was fine. I've done that many times there with no issues. After the pop arrived the owner came to the table and told us there was a $30 minimum due to COVID. I politely asked him a couple of clarifying questions. He then spoke to my date; but I couldn't hear them over the karaoke. When he left, my date commented how rude he was. I agreed, and asked her if she was OK with everything. She replied he had been breathing heavily over her, and had been so rude she felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave. I was perplexed, there were four visits to our table before we were told this, and why would he say there was no table service? I asked a few karaoke friends there if they had been told about the $30, they looked surprised and said no. I even asked the waitress if she knew about a minimum, she replied there was a minimum, but didn't know how much. At our table I asked the owner if we could speak privately. He replied anything I had to say I could say right there. I said it would be more respectful to my date if we spoke privately, he responded whatever I had to say I could say in front of her. I asked him politely what was wrong, he replied there was nothing wrong, we just had to pay the $30 minimum. I asked why he was singling us out, he said he wasn't: he had told everyone. I countered I had spoken to several friends and none had been informed, he responded they had just arrived and he would tell them now (they had been there with drinks before we had arrived at 8, one had already finished an entree). My date told him how rude he had been. He replied he wasn't rude, we just had to pay the minimum. She answered she had no problem paying $30, it was the way he spoke to us and how disrespectful he was. He replied he was (a nationality), he didn't know how people spoke in her culture but that's how people speak in his culture. I saw those friends at another karaoke the next night, they said he was just like that with people. Charqui did post the minimum the next day.
