We were regular clients of the Ferme Rouge, then located near Masson, QC, in an old farm: rustic and warm atmosphere, hearty land-sea buffet (set up in an old boat), energetic staff, singers, dancers, to finish with a lively orchestra that invited clients to dance...till late at night. Since its opening at the Château Cartier, in Gatineau (following the fire a few years ago that completely destroyed it) we didn’t return to the Ferme Rouge. The opportunity arose to celebrate a birthday. The “new” Ferme Rouge is very modern, large dining room, stage in the center, bar, and its famous land-sea buffet (the old boat also burned). Dinner/show on Friday’s and Saturday’s. For seafood lovers, this is the place; for meat lovers, the choices are limited. At times, no plates, and some dishes, empty. When packed, it’s quite noisy and the loud music doesn’t help during the dinner. Waiters/artists do a great job on the floor, and offer lively performances. But the show lacks of variety, and the orchestra is replaced by electronic music. Middle-aged customers really appreciate it; for senior people, it's less "comfortable". We did not stay till the end of the show, not sure we could dance afterwards, and after learning that the French Cancan was no longer performed, because the costumes are too worn. We loved the buffet (price could be more reasonable), but, comparing with our previous experience, the atmosphere is now too "disco", that doesn’t allow to have a convivial atmosphere.
