My husband & I had a wedding anniversary dinner at Lago, and used a Groupon. Even with the Groupon (pre-paid meals and 1 glass of wine), we had a hefty bar bill and tip to pay at the end of the night. However, it was...all well worth it. This wasn't our first visit, but our first time using a Groupon which I highly recommend people do. The waiter hands you a pre-printed specialty Groupon menu where you can select from a few choices of Starter, Main and Dessert. Spencer was our waiter, he's been there practically since the restaurant opened and is excellent at recommending food and offering wine pairings. This is the only restaurant I've been at, where, if it was considered good etiquette, I would have licked my plate clean! Everything from appetizer to dessert was absolutely delicious! Kudos to the chef! Portions were adequate enough that my husband took part of his meal home in a doggy-bag but that was not the case for me, I couldn't leave a crumb behind! Along the wall of windows where we sat, the view of the water helps add to the ambiance. The high-back chairs were worn, but comfortable. The only draw-back is in making a reservation. Even weeks in advance, we couldn't get the preferred night we wanted. The restaurant is often closed because it is booked for private parties and weddings. Please make sure you book well in advance. A must-go-to restaurant in Ottawa.
