There's nothing mind-blowing about John's, but sometimes that's not what you're looking for. The humble surroundings might lead you to think that the food will be average at best, and that's where the pleasant surprise is. John's Breakfast delivers some really well put-together dishes, especially...the breakfast poutine. Nothing tastes old or stale, and it's all cooked quite well. The service is also pleasant and friendly, and I suspect that it's a family operation, but done right. The kids are front of house while the parents work the back, and it results in a really good experience. It might get cramped with all of the people waiting for a table, but that's a sign that you're in a worthwhile place.
