Sunday night right at 5pm opening found this 20 seat cozy little restaurant empty, so no problem getting a seat for 1 Reasonably priced at $11.95, the Sushi 1 combo came with miso soup ( 9/10 ), a little cucumber & noodle salad ( 10/10!...), 3 assorted sushi ( all were 9/10 ), 8 piece California Roll ( 6/10... but I am not really a California Roll fan...). I also ordered the 5 piece Gyoza ( which I always order everywhere ) for $5.95 and these were probably the best I have ever had! Pan fried just right, served with a light vinegar-ish sauce that really made it great. To my pleasant surprise, my unobtrusive, efficient and friendly server brought me a pair of Tempura treats on the house. No idea what they were, but guessing thinly sliced pork and a sliced pepper served with a tasty and spicy sesame sauce. Green tea was served in a REALLY heavy antique iron pot. Quite nice! Total with 20% tip came to $21.98. Pretty satisfying and what I said about it being empty?? Well, by 5:45 it was full , except for 1 table. And a steady stream of Skip The Dishes drivers and take out customers that obviously knew the staff and called ahead, is a pretty good testimonial to repeat business. I’ll remember this little gem next time in the trendy Kensington district!More
