Happy Lemon is a China-based global tea chain with branches sprinkled throughout Asia, Europe and North America. Given this, it should come as no surprise that Happy Lemon hit the Vancouver area a few years ago with, forgive the pun, quite a big splash. It...was not uncommon to see the Robson Street location, for example, with a lineup out the door during the chain’s inaugural summer in 2017. Many a fine patron flocked to Happy Lemon’s door to sample their bubble teas, unique slushies and signature salted cheese drinks. While I have yet to sample the salted cheese (it just sounds really weird to me), I have had occasion to try Happy Lemon’s slush beverages. Before touching on the drinks, though, I’d like to comment on the Robson Street location. It is, understandably, fairly compact. There is no seating and so everything is takeout only. And while bright colours and lemon wedges abound, the atmosphere at Happy Lemon is rather “ho hum;” however, I think this has more to do with the lack of seating and rather cramped ordering area. The staff, on the other hand, is courteous and efficient. If you have trouble navigating Happy Lemon’s diverse menu, the staff are more than happy to assist. I decided on the Mango Lemon Slushy. The drink was vibrant, bright and fresh. The sharp citrus accents nicely complemented the more mellow flavours of the mango. Indeed, what could be more stylish than wandering through “Vancouver’s Runway” with a Happy Lemon Delight? FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 4/5 RECOMMENDATION: While I wouldn’t necessarily say the offerings at Happy Lemon are “Life-changing” as an earlier reviewer put it, it is still a good place to wet one’s whistle. Thus, if you’re looking for unique and creative spins on tea and slushies, this happy chain is worth a stop.
