I was shopping in Chinatown and wanted to find a place nearby to eat. I saw DD Mau had a good number of reviews on TripAdvisor and other review websites, and it was on the same block I was shopping, so I decided to give...it a try. As per COVID-19 protocols, you need to leave your name and number and sanitize your hands before going to your table. I went during lunch on a weekday, so we were only 1 of 2 customers in the place as far as I could tell. Looks like they restored the old space, so it's kind of neat, especially the tiling on the floor. Definitely reminds me of what restaurants looked like in the area from 30 years ago. I tried the following: - DD Mau Chicken Wings - OK. Vancouver has a lot of good places for different type of wings. Nicely fried, but I found they lacked any punch. The meat didn't seemed brined, so the only source of flavour was the glaze, but even the glaze seemed a bit watery. - Fried Sticky Rice - Very good. Easily my favourite dish of the meal. Frying sticky rice the wrong way gives you an overly hard shell, but they did is just right. Lightly crispy skin, but still hot and tender on the inside. Adding the mushrooms, Chinese sausage and egg gave it extra dimension. I would definitely order this again. - Free Range Chicken Pho - OK. It tasted a lot like pho from any other Vietnamese restaurant. Broth was clean and clear, but not particularly special. - Crispy Roasted Pork Sandwich - OK. I made the assumption that the cracklings was part of how they prepare the pork, but when eating it, is seemed like they were two separately prepared ingredients put together. It was OK, but again, nothing really special. Not a lot of cracklings either. Service was quite friendly and attentive. No complaints. Street parking is quite expensive in the area, and I find most of the meters are not working as they're frequently tampered with. Overall, it was not a bad visit. I thought the Fried Sticky Rice was the only standout, and rest of the dishes were average. Restaurant options are very limited in Chinatown, so I would have no problem going back.
