Wow! This little place has been on my partner's "Will Try" list for a while, and with recommendations froma few of my Yelp Friends, we finally came to Yook for our Easter Sunday Dinner! Since its Easter Sunday and also we just got back from...our Calgary trip we decided to come early to avoid possible crowd, the dining area is decorated in a modern tone, unlike most Korean restaurants that has more traditional decor. We were going to get BBQ items but since we just had that on your way back in Kamloops, we thought a hot pot would be a nice change. Since we both love the Pork Bone Stew, we decided to give that a try here, after the table was setup with burner, banchan, and most importantly our Soju! The bubbling pot of wholesome goodness arrived! Once sip of the rich savoury stock, and I am totally blown away with the smooth, creamy and slightly spicy broth! For a serving for 2 we get a relatively large pot! There are 6 good size pieces of Pork Neck Bones, Potatoes, Napa Cabbage, Onion, Red Bell Pepper, Scallions and lots of flavour from the rich pork bone broth! Remember this is a very popular soup/hot pot item in most Korean Restaurants and to make that outstanding it is not an easy feat! As a novice to Korean Cooking, I am looking for flavour, balance, quality of the ingredients, the level of saltiness, and how it compliments with the rest of your meal. And I have to say the Chefs at Yook hit all of them in the bulls eye! We also ordered the Chamisul Classic 360 with 20.1% alc. which goes perfectly with this hearty stew! So if you are craving for something warm and comforting, call up a friend and share a pot of Gamjatang! And OH don't forget the Soju!! Get the Classic!More
