My husband and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary at the nearby Corduroy Suites and wanted to go to a restaurant within walking distance. We are so glad it was Bodega! First of all, it was the closest thing we've had to a normal...restaurant experience in several months. Bodega is quite small, but they have put clear plexiglass barriers between all the tables, so they can maintain regular spacing. Despite the blizzard outside, the restaurant was full; it was such a treat to eat (safely) in a noisy, crowded restaurant! Next, the food. My husband and I shared braised boar cheeks, fresh bread with dips and pesto, grilled asparagus, bacon wrapped dates (and I normally hate dates), and sardines (and we both normally hate sardines!), and for dessert, Portuguese custard tarts and cherry cheesecake. Everything was served hot and was filled with flavour. Lastly, service and atmosphere. Our server was very attentive, but not in your face. He was knowledgeable and appropriately chatty. We had never had tapas before, so he explained it to us without being condescending. I love that you are encouraged to order a few dishes at a time, as the evening progresses. This is definitely a slow eating experience which was exactly what we wanted. We felt the evening was excellent value - $102 plus tip for two glasses of wine, the tapas and dessert. The one single drawback was there was quite a chilly draft along the floor, but the blizzard could have been blowing the wind in more than usual. Now that we have discovered this place, we will certainly be back.
