I went with friends to try this new, family-run coffee house. It’s in an old house on Ottawa’s Cyrville Road, agreeably decorated inside with old wood, plants, and comfy seats. It offers a fairly limited range of coffee styles — Americano, latte, black, mocha and...a couple of others — but the brew is served hot and fresh by the cheerful staff. Also on offer are pastries and muffins, huge sandwiches, and soup (we didn’t try the soup; the sandwiches filled every available nook). The atmosphere is pleasant and quiet, two tables even come with chess sets, and the ambiance clearly says to stay a while and relax. The business takes its name from an expression meaning to keep one’s feet on the ground. There’s parking available behind the shop. The only drawback we could see is the location. It’s not on a main road or busy shopping street and can be easy to miss — we did, and had to double back. But perhaps that will attract coffee drinkers who want to avoid the madding crowd. We know we’ll be back.
