If you're a visitor to Vancouver and you're overwhelmed by the high end eateries or countless sports bars, head to the Ascot for great food and a casual atmosphere. Located in one of Gastown's historic buildings, the Ascot combines British pub food with the healthy...flair that is at the heart of Vancouver menus. The Ascot is not part of many of Vancouver's chain restaurants and pubs, so you won't be pestered by dozens of staff looking to get you in and out. Just cool your jets, sit back, and have one of many exotic cocktails or lagers and just peruse the diverse menu. When the food arrives, you will be more than satisfied. As the place fills up with locals, you may choose to depart as the noise builds. Or you may just join in and catch a live DJ or other event. Play your cards well, and you may get a visit from the well travelled and well spoken proprietor. You'll know him when you see him as he's about twice as tall as you are.
