My takeout from this restaurant was all over the place. I gave them props for service as the called me when something I ordered was not available. They asked me if I would like a substitute and I agreed to one. They also tried to...help me navigate a delivery service where on option was lacking. This is one of the first orders I have had where I was not missing a thing. On Day 1, I ordered the oxtail dinner. It was delish...wonderful seasoning, sauce and tender meat and well cooked rice and beans, but was mainly bone and fat. I was disappointed with the fried dumpling - it wasn't crispy and had no real taste. The plantains were huge, but were not ripe and were not fried or not fried well. It was more like a steamed plantain. They should explain in the take out what kind of plantains these are as most people would expect a fried plantain. I ordered roti skins. These were good, but pricey at $4.00 for one! I made my own curried beef filling for this since no where in Edmonton seems to sell curried beef roti for some reason. On Day 2, I ordered the pound of jerk pork. After eating the oxtail, I had high hopes for this. It was a let down. The pork was not marinated or seasoned, only the skin was dusted in jerk spices and not evenly so as some pieces had no hint of jerk at all. It wasn't even pepper and I had to add my own jerk sauce to this. So, the pork was bland and dry, so bland that I thought I was eating chicken...It was one of those dishes that was better the next day, but this was not what I expected. The mashed potatoes are quite possibly the worst thing I have ever ordered from a restaurant. It is because of this, my rating is a 3 and not a 4/5. It was probably out of box. It was doused with a whole bunch of black pepper when I got it, and that didn't even make a difference. No matter how much salt and butter I put in them, there was still this paper taste. Fortunately, I was able to use it to thicken my curry beef roti stew. Conversely, the mac and cheese was wonderful. Cheesy, well seasoned and perfect cook on the macaroni. Unhappily, it was served in the smallest cup I have seen for takeout and was about 4 tablespoons at best. I enjoyed my bites, but they need to increase the size. I ordered a box of patties and the spicy patty with cheese. The spicy patty with cheese was interesting in a good way. It was basically a cheeseburger stuffed in patty pastry. I liked the innovation, but the real deal spicy beef patties are delicious. I will definitely order the patties again.
