Us four ladies went out for our usual birthday gathering and straight from the Damiana Margaritas it was a hit. I'm not even a margarita fan but I could have drunk these babies all night!. We shared the dishes which was a nice way to...taste many things. The grilled cauliflower was lovely, perfectly cooked and deliciously flavored. We also enjoyed the grilled cactus with the Halloumi cheese melted on top...now I could have just done with a plate of that melted Halloumi and been good! The guacamole and homemade chips were pretty fantastic as well as the warm flour tortillas that were served with the grilled octopus with braised pork belly...now I will say the octopus was a little chewy, but in their defense, unless you are grilling it fresh from the sea it's a difficult dish to manage. We also had the black ink rice which was pretty fantastic but I would say there was more broccoli than prawns or chorizo but the flavor was spot on. Finally, we came to dessert which was some sort of Mexican chocolate mousse, I cannot remember the name of it but I do remember the taste and it was amazing! Beautiful to look at and even more beautiful to swallow! Overall I would definitely return to Fayuca, the waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere was relaxed and unpretentious for Yaletown. Plus they do have a sidewalk patio with heaters even though we sat inside. Prices were fair. It really is a nice change from all the mainstream Mexican restaurants in the city. Great to have the different regions of Mexican cuisine finally represented in Vancouver. It just may have turned me into a Damiana Margarite fan!!More
