Ah, the BC Kitchen! It took me a while to get around to this place, but could you blame me? My experience at “BC Kitchen 2 Go” (now re-named 24/7 Eats) just over a year ago was so underwhelming that I wasn’t feeling overly motivated...to visit the actual dine-in restaurant; however, my grandparents both attested to BC Kitchen’s “goodness” and so, late one evening, we came here for a small bite to eat. After consulting the menu, we settled on the following: dry ribs with fries; the fish and chips; and, spicy buffalo wings. How was it? Well, the food came in good time. My grandfather said his fish and chips were good. He gave me a small sample and, based on what I tasted, it was fine; the batter was crisp, none too greasy and the fish done well. The other items in our order, however, left a bit to be desired. First, the chicken wings, while ample, were overdone and dry. The buffalo sauce was also very scarce – with a few wings seemingly lacking any sauce at all (see photo). Likewise, our dry ribs were definitely that: dry . . . so much so, in fact, it was difficult getting the jerky-like meat off the bones. On the bright side, at least the fries were decent. For pub fare that’s apparently “innovative and high-quality,” I certainly didn’t see it here. Perhaps the grilled lemon accompanying the dry ribs were meant to give them the veneer of high end appearance? Mediocre through and through. In saying that, though, I do have to commend the service. While the food was maybe 2.5 stars at best, the service was good. We were served with a smile and the server checked in with us frequently, even offering an apology for the overly dry ribs. FOOD: 2.5/5 SERVICE: 3/5 VALUE: 3/5 RECOMMENDATION: The physical space that houses BC Kitchen is certainly contemporary and hip, so it’s got that going for it. The silver lining, here, though, is that the food quality is a step up from 24/7 Eats, which still sucks despite the name change. Would I come back? Not of my own accord, because there are much better eateries in the Parq, but if someone offered to treat me to a meal I wouldn’t say no.
