The crowd gathers. You can overhear some of them saying, “oh! It looks like ol’ PookyCake has a tale to tell!” And, indeed, PookyCake does. The moderately prolific TripAdvisor contributor ambles over, sits down and says, “gather around, my friends, and I shall tell you...a tale of customer service. It highlights both the good and the bad.” I have to give the Blanshard Street BP points in customer service because, well, at least they answer their phone. That’s much more than can be said of certain other Boston Pizza locations in the Greater Victoria area. Let me provide a bit more in the way of background: I’d had a long day of travel, landing in Victoria at exactly 11:10PM. I was also very hungry because I hadn’t eaten anything since lunch, but I didn’t want fast food; rather, I had a craving for some pizza and wings. Thus, Boston Pizza was sure to hit the spot! Reviewing the Boston Pizza website, I was pleased to confirm that the Langford location was listed as open until 12AM. As such, we called that location at exactly 11:15PM to place a takeout order, but no dice. The phone rang and rang and rang. A couple more attempts met with the same result. The perpetually ringing phone, in my experience, means “we’re too lazy to take your order because we close in under an hour.” It’s disappointing and doesn’t reflect well on the Boston Pizza brand. While feeling a bit dejected, I wasn’t yet prepared to give up on my Boston Pizza craving and so consulted the website again and saw that the Blanshard street location was open until 1AM. A call was placed and . . . surprise! They actually answered the phone (yay!). I ended up ordering a personal pizza (with ham, pepperoni, mushrooms and crushed chili peppers) + some breaded buffalo wings. As I’ve come to expect of this chain, the pizza was quite good, as were the wings. The food was doubly satisfying because it took a bit of effort to obtain. Thank you, Blanshard location, for satisfying my hunger! And thank you for not being lazy like the Langford location and actually answering your phone! FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 5/5 VALUE: 4/5 RECOMMENDATION: Food-wise, if you’ve been to one Boston Pizza location then you’ve pretty much been to them all. The execution of the food is consistent regardless of location, which is exactly what you want in a large chain restaurant. Unfortunately, though, the customer service tends to be hit and miss as this tale attests. Some are definitely better than others. The Victoria Blanshard Street location, located close to the “Wahoo Mall,” is one of the good ones. Thumbs up!
