I'm just going to say this from the very beginning, it was a very bizarre experience. They were conducting an interview at the front door when there was clearly enough space in the restaurant. Odd choice when walking in and just wanting to be sat....The server was also oddly confrontational and awkward when trying to order a caesar cocktail but wanting modifications. It was clear to me that their 'shtick' is to be overtly and deliberately simple, so they don't do modifications of food or drinks and they offer as little as possible in terms of menu selection to streamline the service. To me, this came off as pretentious and unnecessarily unaccommodating. You want business during a historic economic downturn but you want to patronize guests on how to eat and drink? From an execution standpoint, it's obvious the front of the house works on a "Team Service" based model where no one single server serves any specific section/table/guest so it became more clear why when the original server would come to our table seemed so disconnected and uninterested in our experience. The food was okay. It's a vegan based menu. I had the spicy fries and the Arbor burger. The portions were fine, the presentation was basic, the flavor was average at best. It took maybe 30 minutes for the fries and about 40 minutes for the burger. I wasn't in any rush but it was noticeable how long it took to get food, even with company and a good conversation. So, WHO is this restaurant for? Is it worth going to at all? Well, I'd say it's definitely not a lunch place. For dinner, I would say there are better options for vegans even within the immediate neighborhood. For cocktails? No, they aren't interested in that. It's really more of a meeting place in the evening where you go to talk with a friend or two and don't want any interaction but still want open space (semi-private) and to have a drink or maybe some fries to pick at. The patio makes a comforting backdrop on a warm evening. The dining room is aesthetically bland and lacks character which, ironically, is maybe intentional?More
