Dinner here is a soothing experience. I brought a friend and we were simply floored by the quality of the food, the premium customizable service, even in these dire times when other locals would cut corners to make by. Not Coppi. Beef Carpaccio is simply...amazing here, and we were told it is cured in-house – it was the right amount of smoothness and sweetness, dry, lean and yet juicy. It comes paired with shaved slices of parmigiano reggiano, and we found this cheese extremely fresh compared to other establishments. We ordered fritto misto, fried seafood, and it came battered just right, and not over not under-cooked. We have tried seafood risotto and we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of meat. May pasta dishes here follow receipts from scratch, we went for Mare e Monte, Tirreno and Gnudi to go. Nothing disappointed us. We paired these with a famous Rosso Piceno called Brecciarolo, which we found extremely balanced and flavored to our taste. Dessert wise – the tiramisu is unbelievable, tender, juicy, powdered up. And pana cotta was another good choice. This was in early October when Coppi was open for indoor dining. We wanted to come back to try a famous dish – Pesce al Sale. Following the covid regulations and moving to a modified Stage 2 in mid-October 2020 in Toronto, we had to have it as a take-out. I must say that the orata was cooked just right, and given that is was in the oven, buried in a mountain of coarse salt –this makes it even harder to get the right timing. However, the Chef at Coppi did it just right. I researched that there is another place in California doing it the same, but Coppi is closer, isn’t it. And most likely cheaper. They changed a few things on the menu, and I cannot wait to get back to Coppi. I have seen patrons talking about the place with great familiarity, telling that they are repeat customers for years and years, and still dining or ordering here during the pandemic – I find this is quite telling, for an establishment navigating the murky waters of Covid world that we all live in now. When we ordered our take out, we saw a line-up of cars outside waiting for their order pick-ups and that reassured us that our feedback is shared by so many others. Recommended: fritto misto, beef carpaccio, any type of risotto, and any seafood pasta dish (Tirreno is my favorite). Go for the orata – the pesce al sale, you won’t be disappointed.
