The place is fairly modern and in reasonable shape, and the service is excellent, prompt and friendly. When the food is presented, it's definitely "different:" At first bite the Beef Kurumulaku Peralan strikes you as offputting. The very strong fresh black pepper taste is so...many dimensions away from the innocuous stuff you've been sprinkling on everything your whole life long that it doesn't even register as similar. But as you take more and more bites you start to recognize the basic sensations of black pepper and by that time you are absolutely enamoured with the dish... and can't get enough. I was sopping up every drop of the astounding gravy with a Kerala Paratha so deliciously flaky that it falls apart in your hands. Fortunately I had ordered the Raitha as that was a perfect cooling, refreshing counterpart to the searing beef dish. It is very clear that the chef is not of the type to North-Americanize the flavours of the native cuisine to suit the masses. This is totally original South Indian food and it's astoundingly delectable!More
