We usually stop by the Cheshire Cheese Inn when we are in the Dunbar area. First off, it is a true neighbourhood pub with specials and really good service. However, when they’re busy though, they might forget your water but never your beer : )...We’ve had the usual British Pub Fare – Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips, and Irish Stew. They were all delicious. Nice seasoning with thoughtful preparation. But we’ve also had their non-British sides which weren't good. The “Bucket” of Onion Rings is really a basket. The same plastic basket used to put your burgers in with a side of fries. Prepackaged, frozen onion rings in a plastic basket for $10.95. Not tasty, no seasoning, and definitely not worth $11. The Chicken Wings ($12) were prepackaged (likely frozen) breaded wings drizzled with some odd honey garlic sauce. Fried well and crispy but more pizza place quality and not pub quality. The Calamari ($11.95) was the best of three. They were bite size pieces made from the entire small squid, including tentacles, rather than the huge squid rings you might get at other places. The dipping sauce was delicious. Not sure if the squid was frozen first but with the amount of batter on them, I lean towards them being frozen. We’ll likely go again but will only have their British Pub Fare. That’s where they shine. The extras, well, are just not worth it.
